For his more than 35 years of contributions to the music industry and community, Chicago’s own Stann Champion will be honored with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the 35th Anniversary Chicago Music Awards (CMA) to be held “Under the Stars”, Friday July 1st, 2016 at Union Park in Chicago.
The award recognizes the guitarist/vocalist for his many personal, professional and musical accomplishments including his 2015 CD release of “TimeBless”, a 2016 performance at United Center for the Chicago Bulls celebrating their “50th Year”, his continuing “ZipCodeTour2016”, selection as “Elixir Strings Artist for 2016”, appearing as “The Human Get Well Card”, performing for patients and their families at Swedish Covenant, La Rabida Children’s and University of Chicago Hospitals, recipient of The 6th District Community “Gresham 6 Award”, host of “Stann Champion” radio program on WNUR 89.3 FM (reaching 3 million listeners) and establishing “CampChamp” a mentoring program at Chicago’s Arthur Ashe Elementary. He has been busy using his talents and gift of music for the benefit of the music industry as well as the community.
Stann won awards in 1982 when the CMA first started and is pleased be honored with other CMA selectees, Grammy Award Winning Ella Jenkins and Lenin “Doc” Pellegrino, owner of Kingston Mines Blues Club. Selections were announced at a March press conference hosted by WMAQ/NBC 5, Telemundo and Chicago Music Awards.
